Is Being a Single Mom Different From Being a Single Dad

I wrote an article on how to make it as a single mom and I got a debate started over rather or not being a single mom was different from being a single dad. I would have to say that it is and I will tell you why I believe this.    When a child is born, it is often up to the mother to take care of the children but, a lot of fathers  are now stepping up and playing the mother role as well.    Here is what use to happen when a couple had a child:    The mother would stay home with the children   The mother would tend to the home   The father would work   The mother would continue to take care of the home even after the husband got off of work   The mother would continue to take care of the children even after the husband was off of work.    The chores were not split equally due to the men feeling that because they worked and made money, this should be left to the women.    What should happen when both parents work: ...

How to Get Your Child to Sleep in Their Own Bed

I am proud of all people who have taken the extra step to become a loving parent. I know that sometimes it can have it's moments and that at one point or another we all could use a little help every now and then.  Some parents often find themselves asking for advice on how to get their children to sleep in their own bed. This can be easily accomplished if you follow a few easy tips. Soon after following these tips, you will be able to enjoy a night alone in your bed while your child is sleeping peacefully in his.  If possible when your child is born, try to limit the amount of time that the child sleeps in your bed. This will not only help you later but can also help you aid off the possibility of sudden infant death syndrome, which is a concern with most parents. Doctors have found that when a parent lets a young child sleep in the bed with them, the pillow and comforters may suffocate the child. I was always worried about this and worried about rolling over on top of my chil...

How to Get Your Child to Eat

You have fought, argued, begged and in the end you are still fighting a battle that seems almost never ending. You want your child to eat and be healthy. You need a way to get your child to learn to love the foods put in front of them. Parents have struggled with this one more times then you can count on both hands. Children and vegetables just don't seem to get along.  Parents go to their child's pediatrician all the time asking him for advice on ways to get their children to eat healthy or at the least, eat anything other than lollipops and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Most pediatricians would agree with me when I say that children will eat when they are hungry. I guess this wasn't the advice that you hoped for. Here is some better advice to go with that statement.  Children learn from their parents, and nearly everyone else that comes in site. If you want your child to learn good eating habits then be a role model for them. If your child sees you eating a certain ...

How to Prepare Your Child for School

You have prepared yourself for this day by replaying it time and time again in your head. You can imagine yourself walking your child to the door of the classroom and meeting the teacher for the first time. You don't know if your child will cry or if instead of your child, you cry and embarrass you both. You may be wondering if there is a better way to prepare your child for school other than giving them that child/parent talk about telling the teacher when something goes wrong, and to not be afraid of asking questions if you become confused.  It may or may not be a surprise to you but you can help your child to be prepared for school. A child should never stop learning even when school is not in session. You should always challenge your child's mind in a way that he will learn something new everyday.  ABC's and 123's It may seem as though it is impossible to teach your child who is between three and four years of age, how to sing their ABC's. If you practice with t...

Teaching Your Child About Money

Some parents choose not to give their children money for the simple reason of the losing it or spending it on something that they did not need. Some parents choose to give their children an allowance every week or at least once a month. What are the reasons behind this? When I was younger, my dad never gave us money that we could actually call our own because he always said that we would spend it on things that we did not need. When someone would give us money for our birthdays or Christmas, he would always take it and put it up for safe keeping. I was upset every time he would do this but after I became older I understood why he did it. When I was sixteen my dad gave me the debit card to my savings account and said that I was now old enough to make wiser choices.  I was shocked at how much was in there. My dad had helped me save almost a thousand dollars over time. This may not seem like a lot of money but to a sixteen year old, it was like sitting on a gold mine. I thanked him fo...

Things You Should Know when Getting a Divorce

Divorce can sometimes seem like it is one of the nastiest words that are around. You may have once viewed divorce as though it were something that only happened to couples who had fallen apart after only what had seemed like a wonderful marriage.  You never imagined yourself being the one to go through a divorce. Divorce has become more and more common everyday. You hear about celebrity divorces and maybe even your friends divorces but you never once thought that you would be telling someone about your divorce. Finding a support system could be all that you need to help you get through this rough patch in your life. A support system could be anyone that you feel comfortable enough to talk to when you are feeling down or just need some company. Many divorced people also seek professional help such as a counselor or psychiatrist to help them learn to deal with this pain. Having kids in the middle of a divorce can be one of the hardest things that they are ever put through. Both paren...
