One Gals Journey to Living a Normal Life

As you all know, I have a chronic illness. I got great news a month ago; they came out with a new medication I hadn’t tried. Yay! My doctors, Diana O’Connor, and Rachael Moore out of Oklahoma City, gave me a sample but said they didn’t have many so this would be the only ones they could give me. The migraine shot, Emgality, came with a discount card where you could get it free for twelve months. I sounded the alarms! Fast forward to a month from the time I took it… My insurance won’t pay it and they are now saying I’m not on the insurance. Hint, I am. I called them and they gave me a load of crap. I called the doc, and she said she would try to fix it. It never was. The coupon card Emgality gave me won’t pay for the prescription unless I have insurance and they refuse to pay for it first. I don’t understand why unless Emgality is using this to seek information on insurance companies and their users. Who knows? Here I need this prescription and I must pay full price IN THE MIDDLE ...

Being a Writer with Migraines

You got to love migraines; they come when unexpected, especially while you are trying to be a writer. Nothing is worse than having a pounding headache, unable to see, inability to focus, and yet your mind keeps going back to your writing project. Writing with migraines is a bitch, plain and simple. So, how do you be a writer with migraines? Simple answer… you don’t. You wait until the pain goes away, and then you wait another few days to a week for your vision to come back. Oddly enough, your mind won’t stop wondering back to your book, blog post, freelancing project, or any writing. If you are anything like me and impatient, you can set up your voice recorder on your phone as soon as you feel a migraine is coming. If you don’t think you can work your phone during your migraine, try a simpler recording device. You can pick one of these up on  Amazon . I record what’s on my mind so I don’t miss what might be important to me being a  writer. *I may be compensated for purchases u...

Dialogue Tags and How to Use Them

Dialogue tags are words which refer dialogue to a specific character. “Said” and “asked” are two common examples of dialogue tags. “I won’t help her!” said Christina. Dialogue tags are an important aspect of writing. When scenes have several characters, they help determine which character is speaking. Novice writers tend to use dialogue tags with adverbs to make it more colorful. “I won’t help her!” screamed Christina furiously. “I won’t help her!” Christina shouted angrily. “I won’t help her!” shrieked Christina nervously. Dialogue tags like these are distracting and pull the reader away from the true dialogue. There are better ways to make your character come alive without using adverbs. The actions of the character and dialogue will be enough to bring your story to life. If possible, get rid of dialogue tags. Try using actions and descriptions to show who’s speaking and to increase intensity in your scene. Christina slammed the phone down. “I won’t help her if she refuses to help he...

Get a Free Book Review: Help to Promote Your Book

Working for a self-published author, I realized that the hardest part with being self-published, was getting your name out there. The book industry has taken a nose dive since information can now be found on the web for free. There are all these claims out there on authors striking it big by self-publishing on Amazon. It took me a while to realize what they were doing, but I get paid to do research like this and to advertise for people. I notice that the top authors on Amazon were paying for reviews, they would even give free books so that it wold be a verified review. I don’t like paying for reviews, especially when I am given a budget to work on. If I nose dive beyond that budget, my boss isn’t happy at all. Well,  R.D. Hayes  and I sat up one night and bounced ideas off of our heads. We came up with a solution. What would happen if we moved all of our books to Kindle Unlimited and started reviewing other authors who are also on Kindle Unlimited? So, here is what we came up ...

Is Amazon Mechanical Turk a Scam?

I’ve heard a lot of things about Amazon Mechanical Turk being a scam so I decided to check it out myself. I wanted to provide an honest review of the program. What is Amazon Turk? Put simply, Amazon Turk is a largely growing market place for work which requires human intelligence. Some of the task on Amazon Turk are writing product descriptions, transcribing audio files and videos, doing research for companies, selecting objects from pictures or videos, or searching data details. The entire site is based solely on marketers needing research they believe only a human can do. When a company or developer needs tasks done, they can assess Amazon Turk’s market place and create a HIT (Human Intelligence Tasks). These HITs pay mostly in pennies but can add up over time, and take hardly any time to complete. Is Amazon Turk a Scam? This can only be answered in two parts; the first part being Amazon Turk, and the second being the company or developer. Let’s take a look ...

Stop Throwing Away Your Email Receipts: Get More Kool-Aid

Stop deleting those annoying emails and find out where the Kool-Aid is at. We all get them, and I hate them but, I did find a way to be paid for them. It’s called Paribus . It takes 15 seconds to sign up and worth every second. Paribus scans your emails for receipts to over 16 places such as Target, Amazon, and even Walmart. It looks for these receipts and tracks your purchases. If it finds any of those receipts and sees that there has been a price drop in the items that you have purchased, it will issue a refund according to those price drops. Paribus is where the Kool-Aid is and helps you find money where you didn’t know it was. Most retailers will offer a price difference if they have a price drop within so many days or weeks. There is nothing that you need to do since Paribus contacts those retailers for you.   Paribus charges a fee of 25% for helping to find those price drops. They do require you to add a credit card to your account. The credit card is so they c...

How to Get the Most Out of Swagbucks Review

There have been many search engines who have come and gone. What caused them to crash and burn, lousy research, marketing, lack of sponsors, bad search engines, and flaws within their business plan.  Although there have been horrible search engines that swore they were going to be the next best thing but have any of them actually been able to pull off a money making search engine? The answer is yes. SwagBucks has been able to pull it off for years and they have successfully been making people happy. Fiverr Domination: Proven Secrets to Earning Thousands of Dollars in Your Spare Time

I love reading books that will help me make money online. I hate finding books that I believe will help, but then they disappoint me in a huge way. I recently came across a book called  Fiverr Domination: Proven Secrets to Earning Thousands of Dollars in Your Spare Time . Well. I should have known from the title that it was going to be nothing but a bunch of fluff covered in things that you could have found out on the web or by reading Fiverr's TOS.  The book starts off by going through everything about the  Fiverr website . This is fine except, as a writer, I know how important it is to get to the main point before you lose your readers. There was no need for the writer to tell about Fiverr; everyone that is reading this book already knows what Fiverr is or they wouldn't have purchased it to begin with. Then the book continues on to tell you how to sign up; again, every reader already knows this information so why put it in the book? The writer also had a few grammar err...

Once you reach a minimum of 1,000 points, you can cash it out for a gift card or for paypal. They start off at $5 gift cards or $5 sent to your paypal. Quick Tips on Banks, Lenders, and Credit Card Companies

Banks and lenders use your credit score to calculate what interest rate they can give you. Your credit score affects your interest rate and your interest rate can impact your total cost of a loan. In order to secure the lowest interest rate you qualify for you should first check your credit score and then compare APRs (annual percentage rate) lenders advertise to find the lowest one available to you. When you apply for a loan always choose a lender and look at their interest rate, the amount you’re borrowing and how long it will take you to pay it off. When looking at the APR, always remember that it is the annual percentage rate you will be charged in addition to the amount you borrowed for the duration of the loan all lenders are required to show you the APR before you take out a loan, so you can compare different loan offers, and the APR is affected by your credit score. A higher credit score means that you will have a lower APR and, a lower credit score means a higher APR in which ...

Why You Should Always Back Up Your Articles; There Could Be More Money To Be Had

Credit:R.D. Hayes What would you do if you woke up one day and discovered that all your hard work was gone? I can tell you from being an experienced writer that, putting it mild, sucks! I have had two different online accounts with two online companies that both shut down without much notice and all of my articles, my staying up until the crack of dawn articles, were gone and I wasn’t going to be getting them back. Let’s take a look at these two online sites and how they met their demise shall we? First there was Associated Content Associated Content was where I actually got my big break in online freelance writing. It is also where I met some of my coolest writing buddies, where I had my first rejection, and where I earned my first dollar from online writing. I loved Associated Content . I actually won the 2007 People’s Media Award for Best of AC content back when there wasn’t so many would-be writers. I began writing with them when they were first growing...

What a Credit Report Really Is

A person’s credit report is like a map of how they have been living their life, if they are worthy enough to be trusted by credit lenders, and how they have been living their lives with the credit that they already have. What is Your Credit Report                 Your credit report is a detailed record of your entire credit history. It contains your credit card history, loan history, places of employment, places in which you have lived, names that you have used, lenders that have denied you credit, and payment history. Your credit report is very important and can help you get a good APR, take out loans, or even make your monthly payment lower if your credit score is higher. Always remember that your credit report is very important and you should take advantage of the free yearly report that can be obtained online at anualcreditreport.com, which is the only website that is authorized by federal law that entitles y...

iWriter; Can You Make Money Writing on iWriter?

By:  Erin Kohlenberg  –  CC BY 2.0 Oh yes! Here is another question that a lot of my writer friends and would be writers are asking; can you make money on  iWriter ? The answer is yes and yes, if you try hard enough. I am always looking for new writing gigs to  supplement my income  and over the years, I have found that creating multiple streams of income is the way to do it. A little about iWriter: iWriter is a market place for writers and publishers to buy and sell articles. The website is set up on a simple interface but takes a little while to get use to. There are no flashy buttons on this site and no way to make yourself stand out other than your small little bio. How much can I earn from Iwriter as a freelance writer: This really depends. Starting out, you can only qualify to write certain aritlces and therefore you will only be getting paid a minimum of $1.63 for a 300 word article up to, from what I have seen so far, $7.00 for a 1,000 word art...

Is Being a Single Mom Different From Being a Single Dad

I wrote an article on how to make it as a single mom and I got a debate started over rather or not being a single mom was different from being a single dad. I would have to say that it is and I will tell you why I believe this.    When a child is born, it is often up to the mother to take care of the children but, a lot of fathers  are now stepping up and playing the mother role as well.    Here is what use to happen when a couple had a child:    The mother would stay home with the children   The mother would tend to the home   The father would work   The mother would continue to take care of the home even after the husband got off of work   The mother would continue to take care of the children even after the husband was off of work.    The chores were not split equally due to the men feeling that because they worked and made money, this should be left to the women.    What should happen when both parents work: ...
