A domain name says it all. If you are new to blogging and need to know how to get started blogging so you can start making money online, a domain name is the first step.  

Sure, there are free blogging platforms such as blogger or wordpress, but a domain name lets people know that you mean business, and it makes it easier for people to find your blog. A short, to the point, domain name is all you need.  

Need another reason to have a domain name 

Most free blogging platforms, such as blogger and wordpress, don't allow the blogger to customize it like it would if you had a domain name and hosting. I use Godaddy for this website; they are fairly cheap, and often they allow you to get a domain name either free or for very little when you order hosting. There are other good sites that sell domain names such as Hostgater.  

Should you buy domain names from wordpress or blogger 

I wouldn't think that this would be very wise. Both of these are expensive, and yes, they do have the option to purchase the domain name from them. I would shop around and be careful of where you purchase the domain name and hosting. I ran into a few problems years ago when I first started blogging. I bought a domain name and a hosting package from a site that I pulled up off of  a Google search. The package was cheap but it was so complex and I didn't get much help from customer support. I have called Godaddy and they helped me out quickly and the site is very seldom down, and when it does go down, it only happens for a few minutes before it is back up.  

Make money online with a domain 

Most sites, such as wordpress, won't let you add any form of monetization on the blog. If you get a domain name and hosting, you can pretty much do what you want to it as long as you follow the rules for whatever monetization you add.  

So, what did we learn? Having a domain name makes sense, and if you are new to blogging, you are going to want to get one so you can start making money online.
